Biles’ Adoption Saved Two Children
Much has been made of NBC gymnastics announcer Al Trautwig referring to Ron and Nellie Biles as Olympic gymnast Simone Biles as her “grandparents.” Yes, Simone and her sister Adria were adopted by their maternal grandparents, but the Biles have been the only “parents” Simone and Adria have known.
After termination of the girls mother’s parental rights, Ron and Nellie Biles stepped up to raise two young daughters as they entered middle to retirement age. Since age 3 the Biles’ daughters have only known their parents as Ron and Nellie.
Ron and Nellie Biles provided the structure and love for Simone to succeed. She has become a three-time world champion and clear Olympic all-around gymnastics favorite at just 19 years of age. Listen to the humility as Simone is interviewed. Look at the quiet confidence in her eyes. And watch her unbelievable gymnastic skills that speak for themselves.
The Biles became “selfless” and not “selfish” as they stepped up to the plate to raise 2 toddlers. Whether Simone made it to the Olympics or not is beside the point. The Biles sacrificed their lives to help two children in need, never thinking about their age as “parents” or what others would think. An Olympic champion requires others to provide the basis for success. And clearly Ron and Nellie Biles provided not only the necessary basis but the love that must go with it.
